One of the co-founders behind the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has stated how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the introduction for an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the business alongside his partner, announced that he plans to independently develop this new flavor within a personal collection showcasing causes the company was prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Conflict Between Creators versus Parent Company

This latest announcement escalates the continuing tension between the internationally recognized dessert company and Unilever, the British packaged goods corporation that has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders have asserted how Unilever along with its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented their company against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Sorbet as an Emblem of Support

Mr. Cohen stated through social media how he's developing a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas for the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder stated from a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem for solidarity with the Palestinian people due to its coloration, which mirror those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism plus Current Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in areas occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring their Israel business to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company which originally created in 2016 to support ex- political contender Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes and Upcoming Intentions

The founder indicated how he plans to create other frozen dessert varieties focusing on issues which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

This development comes after partner Mr. Greenfield resigned his position at Ben & Jerry's in September, after decades of involvement, citing worries that the company's autonomy was undermined after Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

At that time, Ben Cohen remarked how “My partner has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to continue to work inside the company to fight for its independence so that the company can fulfill its ethical purpose, the principles which it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he told journalists.
