Condemnation Surges as Former President Trump's Comments on Rob Reiner Ignites Sharp Rebuke

Figures from across the partisan spectrum and the Hollywood industry are coming together to condemn Donald Trump for his statements following the tragic deaths of renowned director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Provocative Social Media Statement

Following the discovery of the couple deceased at their Brentwood residence, Trump posted on his platform to describe the late director as "anguished and struggling". The post, he claimed Reiner's death was "due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and untreatable condition with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to self-praise, contrasting Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Police Update and Arrest

Police have since announced the arrest of the Reiners' adult son, Nick, on suspicion of homicide in connection with the case. Reports indicate his bail was set at a significant sum.

A Torrent of Criticism from Public Figures

The reaction to Trump's words was immediate and scathing.

“What a vile and vile statement,” said public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, similarly criticized the statements. Goldberg pointed to prior comments from Trump about the killing of an activist, asking, "Have you no decency? Can you get any lower?"

California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, simply wrote, "He is a disturbed man."

Echoing this sentiment, US House member Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "What a contemptible piece of trash."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "Trump has just lost it. Now implying Rob and Michele Reiner brought on their own murder because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Rebuke from Within Political Ranks

Some Republican lawmakers also expressed dismay.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the event was "a family tragedy, not about political feuds or rivals". Greene also alluded to challenges with addiction and psychological well-being some families face.

Another Republican congressman, Thomas Massie, called Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disrespectful" given the circumstances. He publicly dared members in his political party to defend the statements.

Reiner's Legacy and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was consistently a outspoken detractor of Donald Trump. In a past interview, he stated Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the office. He had also warned about the risks of authoritarian rule should Trump be reelected to power.

"We see autocracy making its move around the world," Reiner noted. "Should the United States crumble, there’s a danger that democracy collapse around the world."

Despite his pointed opposition, Reiner had previously expressed "absolute horror" and condemned violence for political ends without reservation following the killing of another individual.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Providing a layer of historical connection, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the photographer who shot the cover image for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously shared the story of the session, mentioning Trump's demand for "special hairspray" as posing on a skyscraper overlooking Central Park.
