New York Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the hospital, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Still unsure,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities released video stills Monday of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning in the area between MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was projected as an important component of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined Arizona in 2023 and then joined Houston’s practice squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
