An Australian man that leaped past a barrier and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been expelled and barred from Singapore.

The individual, aged 26, was handed a penalty to over a week in jail for being a public nuisance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," the country's border control stated to news outlets.

He forced his way past photographers and charged at the actress and singer, who was present at the Asian debut for the musical adaptation on November 13. Co-star Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.

He has a background of interrupting performances and star-studded occasions, including rushing the stage at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in June this year.

The event provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with numerous people saying he of causing further distress to the star.

The celebrity has discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a explosive incident at her concert in Manchester in May 2017 took the lives of 22 individuals and affected hundreds.

Throughout the court proceedings, the authorities learned he had tried to gain access on the film's premiere multiple times, according to regional reports.

He then made a second attempt to cross the barriers. Security staff stopped him and held him in place.

The man subsequently shared video clips thanking Grande for allowing his presence and said he was "released."

Police detained him the next day and brought charges against him with causing a disturbance, to which he confessed.

The Court Judge Christopher Goh was referenced by Channel News Asia as remarking that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was mistaken to think he would not suffer any consequences.

Grande has not commented on the situation.

Erivo discussed the incident to NBC, stating that she "just wanted to ensure my friend was protected."

"I'm sure he didn't mean us harm, but you can't predict with such situations, and I sought to confirm that she was OK. That was my first instinct," she commented.
