The Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Astros securing the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their maiden Fall Classic since the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh frame, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 victory in the series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming championship.

"I'm just so happy for our team, Toronto, the nation," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "It's truly an amazing experience."

The veteran has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, ranking him third all-time after Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that situation other than him with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the one club never to appear in a World Series.

Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" after his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their performance in the campaign.

"It's a special team. It's a shame that we ended up on the wrong side of this game," he added.

Toronto claimed the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
