The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Secures a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

ā€œIt feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,ā€ said Cappa. ā€œThe attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.ā€

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
